Interlinked alarms and why they improve safety

28 April 2026 · 5 min read

How hardwire and wireless interlink work, and when to use each approach.

When alarms are interlinked, a single device that detects a hazard triggers every alarm in the system, giving occupants the earliest possible warning wherever they are.

Hardwire versus wireless

Hardwire interlink uses an interconnect cable between devices. Wireless interlink uses radio frequency, which avoids cabling and is well suited to retrofit work.

Choosing an approach

New build projects often use hardwire interlink fitted at first fix, while occupied retrofit projects benefit from wireless interlink to reduce disruption.
